Sarah Michelle Gellar confirms return to AMC

The mother of all things Pine Valley will check in on-screen one last time before the show airs its final episode on ABC in September. Agnes Nixon will reprise the role of Agnes Eckhart later this month.

Agnes Nixon isn't just back as a creative consultant to guide All My Children towards its final network television broacast. The legendary soap writer will pop up on-screen, too.

Nixon will play the role of Agnes Eckhart, a long-standing board member of Pine Valley Hospital. Nixon first appeared as the fictional Agnes as part of All My Children's 35th anniversary celebration in 2005.

Agnes Nixon is considered by many to be the "queen of the modern soap opera." In addition to creating All My Children in 1970, Nixon also created the show's sister soap, One Life to Live, in 1968, as well as Loving in 1983 and its spinoff, The City, in 1995.

In addition to creating soaps, Nixon also served as a writer on the iconic soaps Search For Tomorrow, and the Procter & Gamble-produced Another World, As the World Turns, and Guiding Light.

A show rep tells Soap Central that Nixon's character will interact with Cara and David, as well as Erica.

"Agnes has a profound effect on all of the characters she interacts with that changes the course of their lives," the spokesperson teased.

Nixon's first episode airs on August 31, 2011.
