Here's some news that will take All My Children fans' breath away: Charles Parnell, who played the part of Police Chief Derek Frye, will be joining Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer in the upcoming Top Gun remake.
The film, officially titled Top Gun: Maverick, is the sequel to the 1986 action drama film Top Gun. The plot of the remake is still under wraps, but Deadline reports Parnell will play an admiral in the film based around the United States Navy's elite fighter pilots.
The first movie starred Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, Tom Skerritt, Michael Ironside, Tim Robbins, Rick Rossovich, John Stockwell, James Tolkan, Clarence Gilyard, Barry Tubb, Adrian Pasdar, and Whip Hubley.
Cruise and Kilmer are the only two original cast members who have signed on for the remake, but they'll be joined by a bevy of other talented stars. Notable names thus far include Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.
Parnell was the second actor to take on the role of AMC's Derek Frye, who was originally portrayed by William Christian. After his stint in Pine Valley, which lasted from 2005 to 2007, Parnell went on to star in shows like Crash, North Woods Law, The Last Ship, and The Venture Bros..
Top Gun: Maverick is slated for a release on July 12, 2019.
