Earlier this month All My Children alum Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery) was ecstatic to share that his talk show, Home & Family, was returning from its pandemic-forced hiatus with an updated format, but Hallmark has since announced that the series has been canceled.
"The ninth and current season of Home & Family will be the series' last," a spokesperson for the network said in a statement. "For nearly a decade, the show has anchored our daytime lineup, featuring countless hours of cooking, lifestyle, DIY, health, entertaining, and decorating segments. We want to thank the heart and soul of the show, our incredibly talented cast and crew -- led by co-hosts Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison -- for their creativity, hard work, and dedication."
As Soap Central previously reported, the ninth -- and now final -- season of the daytime talk show is set to return on Monday, April 5, with a new one-hour, three-day-a-week format: it will air on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 10AM ET. Hallmark's cancellation announcement comes with the news that the program's final episode will air on Wednesday, August 4.
Mathison has yet to publicly react to the news that the show he's been co-hosting will be no more, but there's no doubt he will be crushed. In his post announcing the series' upcoming return, he enthused that he couldn't wait to get back on the air, as he has missed everyone.
The silver lining is that perhaps Home & Family's cancellation means that Mathison will be free to appear in the new primetime reboot of All My Children? Fingers crossed for now, and Soap Central will let you know when or if that becomes a reality!
Originally hosted by Cristina Ferrare, Michael Burger, and Chuck Woolery, Home & Family (formerly titled The Home and Family Show) premiered on The Family Channel on April 1, 1996, and ran until August 14, 1998. It featured numerous recurring and regular personalities known as "the family" who shared tips on beauty, crafts, cooking, and other home-related topics. The show was revived in 2012, hosted by Mathison and Matenopoulos.
