Last night, the Screen Actors Guild gave Still Alice star Julianne Moore the award for Female Actor In a Leading Role, and in return, she gave As the World Turns a very hefty mention.
Upon taking the stage to give her acceptance speech during the 21st Annual SAG awards, the Hollywood actress recalled her time on the CBS soap, where she played the dual role of Frannie and Sabrina Hughes in the mid-80s. "When I was on As the World Turns," she began to thunderous applause, "I was so excited when they wrote two parts for me: the classic twin sister role, the good and the evil one, and I couldn't wait to do it. I was so excited, and then I realized it was super boring to act by myself, and what I really loved, what I really craved, and what was most exciting for me, was being with another actor and feeling that intimacy and that excitement and that thrill of getting to know somebody in that way. And that's what keeps me coming back to acting again, and again, and again."
The ATWT reference made such an impression, actor Zach Galifianakis jokingly repeated Moore's intro "When I was on As the World Turns..." during his chance to take the mic after Birdman took home the award for Best Ensemble in a Motion Picture.
Since leaving the daytime world in 1988, Moore has been very vocal about her appreciation for having been a part of the soap opera genre. As fans may recall, she returned to ATWT for a brief appearance before it went off the air in 2010.
