Days of our Lives fans may have thought that their eyes were playing tricks on them when actor Terrell Tilford appeared as D.A. James Giddens during the episode that aired on Friday, February 21. After all, the last time that the actor was seen in Salem back in 2008, he was in the role of Dr. Bob Carrington. But fan's eyes weren't deceiving them: the soap opera did a surprise recast, bringing Tilford in as this brand-new character.
Online rumors have been circulating for weeks about Tilford's return, but the assumption was that he'd be reprising the role of Dr. Carrington for a story involving Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Sarah's (Linsey Godfrey) daughter, Mickey -- who fans know is actually the presumed-dead child of Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Kristen (Stacy Haiduk). So, when Tilford suddenly appeared as D.A. Giddens, it was quite a shock.
It was made even more shockworthy by the character's name being a tip-of-the-hat to soap scholar and creator of the series Ambitions Jamey Giddens.
At this time, it's unclear how long Tilford will be playing his new DAYS role or how much D.A. Giddens will factor into upcoming story. Most soap fans would love for him to stick around, as he's a talented actor with an established past in daytime.
In addition to playing Salem doctor Bob Carrington in 2008, his credits include Guiding Light's David Grant, One Life to Live's Greg Evans, and The Young and the Restless' Barton Shelby.
