The pool from which this year's Emmy winners will be selected just got a little smaller. The official 2013 Daytime Emmy pre-nominations have been announced.
Five daytime drama series are eligible for Emmy consideration this year: The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, The Young and the Restless, and, though it aired just nine episodes in the 2012 calendar year, One Life to Live.
None of the performers who'd submitted their work from One Life to Live landed pre-nominations, but two former OLTL stars -- Roger Howarth (Todd Manning) and Kristen Alderson (Starr Manning) -- received pre-nominations for General Hospital for playing their One Life to Live roles.
Here's how the pre-nominations were determined. All stars who wanted to be considered for the Emmy process submitted a single scene representing their best work from the 2012 calendar year. The submitted clips could be no longer than three minutes in length.
A ballot containing a full list of entrants in each of four performer categories was sent to registered, eligible peer judges. The ballot contained an unrevealed and randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation. Judges were required to view clips containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top ten performer choices in each category. The judges sent their ballots directly to Lutz & Carr, an independent accounting firm, who tabulated the results.
The ten candidates in each category who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon at-home screening round, scheduled to begin on March 27, 2013, which will determine both nominees and Emmy winners.
The Lead Actress category contains eleven pre-nominated performers due to a tie. This year due to the number of entrants in the Younger Actress and Younger Actor categories for Drama Series Performers age 25 or under, there was no pre-nomination round necessary, so the nine entrants in each of those categories will advance to the Blue Ribbon round as entrants and are also revealed in this release.
