Several media outlets are reporting that Sarah Brown (Carly Corinthos) will depart General Hospital this spring. The reports come more than two months after an initial Soap Central report that Brown was considering a leave so that she could enroll in film school.
According to insider buzz, Brown and ABC execs could not reach an agreement on salary nor the length of Brown's new contract.
Brown's assertion that she might leave is not new. The multiple Daytime Emmy winner revealed at ABC's Super Soap Weekend this past November, that she was not too sure if she was going to renew her contract with General Hospital when expires in month.
Though ABC has no official comment, the network reportedly does have some contingency plans in place. According to Internet rumors, ABC had two One Life to Live performers on tap for the role of Carly, which, by all accounts, will be recast.
The least likely of the rumors has Robin Christopher (Skye Chandler, One Life to Live and All My Children) dropping anchor in Port Charles. The second report claims that Gina Tognoni (Kelly, One Life to Live) will take over for Brown. Tognoni is currently on contract with One Life to Live, but her contract expires in a few months - just a few weeks after Brown's contract with GH would expire.
No final airdate has been announced and it is not out of the realm of possibility that Brown will work on a temporary extension even after her contract expires.
