General Hospital's Sofia Mattsson has something in common with her Port Charles character, Sasha Gilmore: she's pregnant!
The popular star took to Instagram with the surprise news, sharing a photo of herself looking quite far along with the caption, "BIG things happening!! So happy and excited to finally share this (almost ready to pop) bump with everyone!!"
Mattsson, who just celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary with her husband, Thomas Payton, explains that she kept her pregnancy "secret for a while to not spoil anything for GH viewers, but now that miss Sasha Gilmore's pregnancy is in full force I can finally share that I'm so grateful to be sharing this pregnancy journey with her!"
Just as fans are surprised to find out that Mattsson is expecting in real life, over in soap land, Sasha was surprised to find out that she and Brando (Johnny Wactor) are having a child. In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Mattsson revealed that her alter ego is experiencing several emotions at once about becoming a mother.
"On one hand, it's scary and overwhelming because it's such a life-changing event that was unplanned for. Sasha was focused on a career and on getting on track after her drug abuse; becoming a mother was not at all on her mind," the actress explains. "On the other hand, Sasha is very strong and has always handled anything that's been thrown her way, so she's ready to put those feelings aside and buckle up to deal with motherhood."
As for how the pregnancy will affect Sasha and Brando's budding relationship, Mattsson teases, "I think the fact that they skipped a couple of usual steps in a relationship and had to dive into serious and real stuff so soon has made them grow closer faster. But even so, they're still just getting to know each other and have a lot to figure out when it comes to who they are to one another and what exactly this means for them as a potential couple."
