The moment that Sprina (Spencer and Trina) fans have been hoping and waiting for has finally arrived -- or it will -- when Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) head to New York City for their romantic getaway and make love for the first time.
Tabyana Ali opened up about the special moment and major milestone in Trina's relationship with Spencer. The actress acknowledged that the dynamic between the couple had shifted since their return from Greenland because of Spencer's living arrangement with ex-girlfriend Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) and her son. "It's not that they necessarily had an argument; they were just in a bit of a tight space," Ali explained to Soap Opera Digest. "And I think it's that tightness that probably made Spencer like, 'Okay, I need to do something so that we can have our moment and our time alone,' which caused him to suggest this trip."
Ali revealed that when Spencer and Trina get to their hotel, Trina will start trying to get her mind mentally prepared for what's ahead. "Not like, 'Oh, my gosh I need to mentally prepare for this,' because I do think she has already been thinking about it. When I say, 'mentally prepared,' I mean it's more like, 'Okay, I need to calm my nerves of excitement." Ali clarified. She pointed out that whenever things heated up in the past between Trina and Spencer, Trina had been the one who had urged Spencer to "go ahead and do it." "She thought it was going to happen in Greenland and it didn't. Now, it's like, 'Oh, my gosh, now it's really going to happen, on this romantic date in New York City!'" Ali shared.
Between Esme's constant presence, Portia's meddling, and the stress from Curtis' shooting, Spencer and Trina have had little time to themselves. "I think they really need this time together," Ali said.
Ali promised Sprina fans that there would be lots of sweet moments to savor, especially as things unfold between the lovebirds when they make love. "It's finally, like, the really lovey-dovey, gushy-wushy stuff that they've been wanting," she shares with a grin. "It's beautiful. I think it was great writing, beautiful writing, and I'm happy with how everything was written."
Ali also revealed that she was pleased with how everything had been handled on the set when they shot her very first love scenes. She admitted that she'd had an inkling that it would be happening. "I had a couple of scripts beforehand where I was like, 'Hmm, this feels like a lead-up to something." I just had the feeling that something was going to happen. And then, I think the week before we did the scenes, Wardrobe was like, 'Hey, just wanted to let you know that you're going to be doing these love scenes with Spencer.' And I was like, 'Wow! Really?' And on the inside I was like, 'Oh, my God, that's so crazy.' Because this is my first love scene! I wasn't necessarily nervous; I was more curious about what it was going to be like, having never done one before."
Ali talked to executive producer Frank Valentini, director Allison Reams, and the show's intimacy coordinator. "I made sure I had conversations with those three to get an idea of what everything was going to be like and would look like and what their ideas were, and I tried to give my two cents, as well." Ali said. However, she admitted that she still felt vulnerable when she arrived on the set that day. "I was like, 'I've never had this many people look at me like this, in this way.' But I was excited as it went on. I started to feel really cute, and I actually felt really pretty, and I was like, 'Oh, my gosh!' It was actually kind of fun, you know? It was cool."
Ali credited the thoughtfulness of her co-star Nicholas Chavez for helping to make the situation easier. "He made sure that I was comfortable," Ali revealed. "He would ask me, 'What are the places you are okay being touched? What should I not touch? Is it okay if I do this or that?' He was very respectful, which I definitely appreciated, and I tried to do the same thing with him."
According to Ali, after making love, Spencer and Trina will be more in love than ever. "This is a huge moment for them, and I think they will be way more open to each other now and realize, 'I'm free to be me with you.'," Ali concluded.
But, being a soap, will the fates allow them to be free to be together? Fans will have to tune in to find out!
