Nathaniel Marston critically injured in car accident

Former One Life to Live and As the World Turns star Nathaniel Marston is fighting for his life after being involved in a car accident.

One Life to Live alum Nathaniel Marston (ex-Michael McBain and ex-Al Holden; ex-Eddie Silva, As the World Turns) was critically injured in an automobile accident on October 31.

The actor's mother, Elizabeth Jackson, shared the heartbreaking details of her son's accident on social media and asked for fans to rally behind Nathaniel.

"Please pray for my son Nathaniel Marston," Jackson wrote. "He was in a car accident last night and is in the intensive care on life support"

Wanting to dispel rumors before the Internet had a chance to start circulating them, Jackson denied that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

"Just spoke to highway patrol and tribal police [...] Nate was sober according to cops," Jackson added.

The 40-year-old Marston's condition is quite serious. The actor is on life support and reportedly suffered a broken neck, shoulder, and ribs. Additionally, he fractured cervical vertebrae 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

"Spoke to Nate's [doctor]. In all likely hood (sic) if he lives he will be paralyzed from the neck down and will not breathe without a ventilator machine," Jackson added in an update.

Martson's former costars and friends also took to social media to send their good wishes.

"All my thoughts and prayers go out to Nathaniel Marston and his family. #FightKidFight," Michael Park (ex-Jack Snyder, ATWT) shared.

Agim Kaba (ex-Aaron, ATWT) wrote on Twitter, "Please pray for my buddy Nathaniel Martson who was in a terrible car accident."

"Heard about Nathaniel Martson. I loved writing for him," offered DAYS' head writer Dena Higley, who wrote for Martson at OLTL. "Please pray for his recovery. The news is grim but with God all things are possible."

Marston debuted as Al Holden in December 2001. The character was written off in 2003, but fan outcry was so strong that the actor was brought back as a new character, Michael McBain, in November 2003.

UPDATE (November 2):
Elizabeth Jackson provided the following update on her son's condition: "Nate was able to decide and express very clearly this morning that he is not going to give up without a fight. He is going into surgery at 300 this afternoon. The goal is to get him breathing on his own. The Dr said that there is a good chance that he will recover the use of upper body movement and a slim chance that he will walk again. Recovery will take 2 or more years but where there is life there is hope. Nate has never walked away from a fight and he is determined to win this one.. please pray for Nates full and complete recovery. Both Nate and I appreciate your love prayers and support."

UPDATE (November 3):
After Marston underwent surgery, his mother offered an update
"My beloved [son] Nathaniel made it through today's surgery and his [doctors] are pleased with the result. He is still in critical condition but now we have hope," she shared. "Please continue to keep Nathaniel in your thoughts and prayers, asking God for Nathaniel's complete and full recovery. I will continue to post as I have news. Thank you again for your positive thoughts and prayers which have, and are, making a difference. Sending peace, love and light out to all of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
