Have mercy! Former One Life to Live star John Brotherton (ex-Jared Banks) has been bumped up to series regular for the second season of Netflix's popular spin-off series Fuller House, and he teases there's plenty of excitement ahead for his alter ego, Dr. Matt Harmon.
"I can't give too much away, [but] there's some definite fun plot twists that unfold in season two," he shared with Hidden Remote about the series based on the 1980s hit Full House. "We left with quite a cliffhanger in season one, with the whole love triangle thing with Steve [Scott Weinger] and [DJ Tanner, Candice Cameron]. That continues and there is temporary resolution. It's just a ton of fun to look forward to. My character gets to know more people better, let's put it that way."
Now that he's in the sitcom world, Brotherton says he's constantly asked about the difference between drama and comedy. And luckily, he has plenty of experience with Llanview drama to know the difference!
"I think there's an illusion that drama's more difficult because the human being that you're watching is going through a more difficult situation. I think in reality, comedy is a lot more difficult as a skill because when it's done well, it looks really easy so people think it's much easier because it's kind of fun in a way," he shares, adding that he still looks fondly at his daytime gig.
"I'm so proud that I got to be part of the soap world with One Life To Live, because it's just another kind of different," he says. "I know it sounds really cliché, but I really love to act. I just always want to get better and the only way to do that is to constantly challenge yourself the best you can. I love jumping from comedy to drama to horror movie to action."
Fans can catch Brotherton in the season two premiere of Fuller House when it debuts on Netflix on Friday, December 9.
