The daytime drama ratings are out for the week of September 23 through September 27, and it's mostly good news for the genre... mixed with a little bad.
The Young and the Restless rebounded from its recent dismal numbers, gaining the most viewers out of all the soaps with an additional 104,000 for the week. The CBS soap opera also saw a return to the number one position in all key demographics as Jack (Peter Bergman) and Traci (Beth Maitland) decided to write a book about the Abbott family and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) was arrested for the "murder" of her father, Victor (Eric Braeden).
The Bold and the Beautiful saw a drop of 74,000 viewers, but the show's total viewership actually rose 8,000 from this same time last year -- making it the only soap to see total year-to-year viewership gains. With its sister soap, Y&R, trumping all the key demos, B&B took second place in the demos with story that included Wyatt (Darin Brooks) proposing to Sally (Courtney Hope), and Katie (Heather Tom) facing death from kidney failure.
General Hospital managed to gain 41,000 viewers from the week before as Carly (Laura Wright) went into labor, Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) was shot and killed, and Julian (William deVry) broke things off with Kim (Tamara Braun). However, GH was down 174,000 viewers in year-to-year viewership.
Unfortunately for Days of our Lives, the NBC soap opera lost 64,000 viewers for the week as Jack (Matthew Ashford) regained his memory, Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) found out she was pregnant, and Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) agreed to give Kate's heart to a dying Julie (Susan Seaforth-Hayes). What's worse, DAYS lost 174,000 viewers year to date and returned to position four in all key demos.
