There may very well be a reason that Ashley Bashioum (ex-Mackenzie Browning) did not land the part of Marina on CBS's Guiding Light - a good reason. Beginning next month, Bashioum reprises the role of Y&R's Mac.
Bashioum originated the role of Mackenzie in 1999, but left The Young and the Restless in February 2002 to focus on college and a career in medicine. Earlier this year, Bashioum auditioned for the role of Marina Cooper on Guiding Light.
Upon Bashioum's exit, Y&R execs recast the role of Mackenzie with soap newcomer Kelly Kruger. Kruger, however, didn't catch on with fans, who were still wildly enamored by Bashioum. About a year after assuming the role, Kruger was released from the show.
A show spokesperson had originally hoped that Bashioum would be back on-screen in mid-March. However, the scenes were pushed back and Bashioum will now make her return on April 20th.
Bashioum's return led to rampant speculation that Emmy winner David Tom (ex-Billy Abbott) might also be returning to the show as Bashioum's on-screen love interest. However, Tom accepted a role on ABC's One Life to Live. A show spokesperson declined to comment, however, if the role of Billy would be recast on the future.
