Darius McCrary latest star ousted from Y&R

Though unconfirmed by the show, sources tell Soap Central that Darius McCrary has been let go from The Young and the Restless. The actor took over the role of Malcolm Winters in 2009.

The Young and the Restless continues to clean house. Darius McCrary (Malcolm Winters) has been let go from the show. The actor is just a few months shy of his two-year anniversary with the show.

In November 2009, McCrary was cast as the successor to model-turned-actor-turned-Emmy winner Shemar Moore. Some fans viewed the casting decision with raised eyebrows, as many only knew of McCrary from his work on the 1990s family-friendly sitcom Family Matters.

When McCrary dropped by Soap Central Live in May, he reflected on how he'd landed his role on The Young and the Restless and the many roles he'd played between Malcolm and Eddie.

"Well, you know, I would love for it to have been that simple, but there were a lot of roles in between Eddie Winslow and Malcolm Winters. I had a chance to play Muhammad Ali, I had a chance to do Next Day Air, I had a chance to be a vampire with Jon Bon Jovi -- I mean, the list goes on and on and on," McCrary reflected. "So there was a lot of preparation for me to be able to stand in the ranks alongside some of the greats like Kristoff St. John (Neil), Doug Davidson (Paul) and Peter Bergman (Jack). It's really a blessing, and I consider it an honor every time that I get to walk onto that stage and I'm a part of something that is such a legacy, and something that is truly greater than me."

McCrary is currently working on a solo album. His most recent feature film, 35 and Ticking, is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray. For more information on the movie, click here.

News of McCrary's impending exit came the same day as two other Y&R stars announced their exits on Twitter. Tristan Rogers (Colin Atkinson) revealed his character would be exiting the canvas, and Emmy winner Eden Riegel (Heather Stevens) learned that she would be leaving after Soaps In Depth published a report that she'd been let go.

The Young and the Restless does not comment on contract status.
