Burgess Jenkins exits as Y&R's Billy

The Young and the Restless' Burgess Jenkins has announced that he will exit the show. Reports say CBS will recast the role of Billy for the third time since early 2014.

Relative newcomer Burgess Jenkins (Billy Abbott) has opted to exit The Young and the Restless after less than a year-and-a-half in the role.

"It's been a terrific time, but after a lot of thought I have made the difficult decision to leave The Young and the Restless," Jenkins said in a statement. "Commuting back and forth from the East Coast where my home and family are based has been challenging. I've had a great ride in Genoa City and I will miss our talented cast and crew tremendously. I would like to thank all of the amazing fans for their support, Jill Farren Phelps and Chuck Pratt for their excellent leadership, and everyone at Sony and CBS for this opportunity."

Last week, Daytime Confidential reported that Jenkins had been let go and that the CBS soap was moving ahead with plans to recast Billy.

Jenkins stepped into the role of John and Jill's son in June of 2014 following a short-lived reprisal by former portrayer David Tom, who stepped in again shortly after fan favorite Billy Miller vacated the role.

Set side sources have indicated that the number one soap is eyeing Jason Thompson for the role, as he just announced he will not be renewing his contract as General Hospital's Patrick.

DC reports that whether or not Thompson accepts the position, the soap plans to move forward with a new Billy whose different appearance will be explained with a plastic surgery storyline.

At this time, there's no word on whether or not Y&R officially plans to recast the role.

What do you think about Y&R once again recasting the role of Billy? Do you think Thompson is a good choice for the character? Who else can you see playing the part? Share your thoughts in the Comments section below, on our message boards, or by submitting Feedback.
